Exceleron Announces 2014 Awards for Utilities Excelling with MyUsage Prepay®

Charleston, South Carolina – October 14, 2014 – Exceleron Software has announced the recipients of its 2014 awards for utilities making exceptional use of MyUsage Prepay and MyUsage MDM. The awards were announced at last night’s Customer Appreciation Dinner as part of the annual Exceleron Prepay Users Conference.

Karen Hutson, Director of Training, along with Mike Barta and Dan Guffey of the Exceleron support team, presented the awards in front of 85 utility professionals representing 35 utilities in 17 states. “It’s an honor and privilege to work hand in hand with utilities across the country that are committed to making the benefits of prepay accounts available to their customers,” said Hutson. “These awards are a symbol of our appreciation and our commitment to all the utilities that make up the Exceleron family.”

This year, Exceleron announced the creation of the annual Marsha Potts Customer Service Award. The new award is named for Potts, who was the manager of customer service at Farmers Electric Cooperative in Greenville, Texas for 26 years, and passed away in July. In the cooperative’s newsletter, Farmers Electric wrote that Potts “personifies what an electric cooperative is all about: our four core values of accountability, integrity, innovation and commitment to community.”
Farmers Electric Cooperative received the inaugural 2014 Marsha Potts Customer Service Award in recognition of the cooperative’s exceptional commitment to customer service, of which prepay account offerings are a strategic component. Each year, Exceleron’s utility customers will be invited to nominate someone who exemplifies customer service as it relates to prepayment. The recipient will be selected by the Exceleron team.

Cowlitz County PUD of Longview, Washington was named the 2014 Rookie of the Year. Although Cowlitz began using quite recently, in early 2013, it has experienced rapid growth, largely due to its continued internal promotion of prepay to help ensure 100% buy-in by its customer service representatives. Cowlitz has also been instrumental in promoting its prepay success throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Oklahoma Electric Cooperative (OEC) of Norman, Oklahoma received the 2014 Award for Energy Conservation Analysis for sharing its data and analyses with DEFG and other organizations that are promoting the many benefits of prepayment. OEC was one of the first utilities to use MyUsage Prepaid to offer prepaid accounts to customers, having partnered with Exceleron in 2006.

Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) of Jacksonville, Florida received the 2014 Award of Excellence. JEA has recommended many ways to improve MyUsage for a multi-service environment. In addition, JEA has actively promoted its prepay program, MyWay, and has seen an improvement in customer satisfaction, which is partially attributed to the prepay offering. Sheila Pressley of JEA currently chairs the User Advisory Board.

Blue Ridge EMC of Lenoir, North Carolina received the 2014 President’s Award for Industry Promotion in recognition of its many presentations on the benefits of prepayment. Blue Ridge often assists Exceleron at conferences throughout the southeast by allowing us to present Blue Ridge as a case study or by participating on panels.

Five additional utility service providers received the 2014 President’s Awards for Special Recognition due to their dedication to the promotion of prepay accounts and their continued efforts to grow their programs. The recipients were Coosa Valley EC of Talladega, Alabama; Covington EC of Andalusia, Alabama; Pitt & Greene EMC of Farmville, North Carolina; Southwest Tennessee EMC of Brownsville, Tennessee; and Tri-State EMC of Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Recipients of the 2015 awards will be announced at the 2015 MyUsage Users Conference, which will be held next fall. Details will be announced on Exceleron’s website in the coming months.
